Odisha judokas win two national medals

A five-member Odisha squad was accorded warm reception on its returned home on Monday after winning one silver and one bronze medals in the Sub-Junior National Judo Championship, held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai from January 14 to 18.

Sangita Miniaka pocketed the silver in 12-to-13-year girls` 30-35kg category when she lost to Th Tababi Devi of Manipur in the final. Sangita earlier won three bouts to enter semifinals, where she beat Akshata Sunkad of Karnataka.

Sankar Majhi settled with the bronze medal in 10-to-11-year boys` +25kg group after losing to an opponent from Punjab. Sankar earlier won three bouts to enter semifinal, where he lost to Uttarakhand`s Shivaji Tiwari.

The squad, which was accompanied by coach Kandan Murmu and manager Binash Mishra, missed three more bronze medals narrowly as Subuni Dei Majhi, Mamuni Majhi and Raju Koude finished fourth in respective groups.
